A Tribute to Earth on Her Day

Earth Day brings the world’s focus to the beautiful planet on which we live our lives. On this day, Earth takes center stage. Yet this is the focus of our work here at Xos every day: reducing toxic carbon emissions and preserving the health of our planet and its people. Earth Day is both a celebration of the place we call home and a sober reminder of how desperately we need to take care of it.

The Global Earth Challenge™ website reminds us: “The air we breathe is vital for the health of humans and the planet around us. In recent decades, there has been a significant increase in particulates, chemicals, and harmful gases in our atmosphere, leading to health issues and millions of premature deaths worldwide. Poor air quality is also linked to climate change and biodiversity loss.” This is serious, and it’s the reason we’re serious about our work. Here are a few ways to learn more and continue to participate in the change:

  • Remember the three R’s: Reduce, Reuse, Recycle

  • Check out documentaries like Chasing Coral, Chasing Ice, Seaspiracy, and Kiss the Ground (all on Netflix)

  • Pick up a good book, like “How to Avoid a Climate Disaster” by Bill Gates, “Diet for a Hot Planet” by Anna Lappé, or “No One Is Too Small To Make a Difference” by Greta Thunberg

  • Learn more and find Earth Day events at earthday.org

We’re also looking at our habits across the organization to ensure we’re practicing sustainability in our daily work. This includes forming an Xos internal sustainability committee, which takes a closer examination of the ways in which our company can participate in the change within our own walls. We’re dedicated to the details that support the big picture.

In closing, a powerful quote from Earthday.org: “We must Restore Our Earth not just because we care about the natural world, but because we live on it. Every one of us needs a healthy Earth to support our jobs, livelihoods, health & survival, and happiness. A healthy planet is not an option — it is a necessity.” Restoring our Earth cannot be relegated to one day a year. We must all continue to celebrate Earth Day every day, for our world and all the people in it.
